The Gainesville Fire Department was formed in the
Village of Gainesville in 1925. On February 27th,
1927 it became incorporated by the State of New York.
In
1976, the members saw a need to provide Emergency First
Aid Care to the residence of the district. These members
formed a first response unit called the Gainesville Fire
Dept. Emergency First Aid Team. As Time evolved, so has
the Fire Department. In 2000, our department took over
transporting patients to hospitals, changed the name of
the First Aid Squad and became the Gainesville Rescue
Squad.
Currently our department membership consists of Active,
Rescue, Juniors, Social, and Life. Our Active membership
total 34, included in this total are 18 members that are
EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technicians). Our district
covers the Village of Gainesville, Town of Gainesville,
and a portion of the Town of Wethersfield, an area
totaling over
65 square miles.
The Gainesville Fire Dept. & Rescue Squad provides a
variety of services to our community including Fire,
Emergency Medical Responses, Vehicle rescues, Off Road
Rescues & Fire Suppressions, and Hazardous Materials
Responses. We have also developed a specialized response
for Mass Causality Incidents, not just to our community
but can respond to aid our neighboring communities as
well.
As
with all Volunteer Organizations, membership numbers are
in decline, and we are no different, and we welcome
members of the community to join the Gainesville Fire
Department. |
